ATLANTA, GA — In conjunction with its global branding efforts, international tire manufacturer Maxxis International has become the “The Official Tire of the Houston Rockets.” The sponsorship agreement remains in effect for the balance of the 2004 NBA season.

Maxxis said it selected the Houston Rockets for a number of reasons, one of which is the team’s new home in downtown Houston. The team’s history of success and marketability make the Rockets a perfect choice for Maxxis, said Michael McGunagle, marketing manager for Maxxis International.

“The Rockets, having players with such international notoriety, is a great fit with our global branding efforts,” said McGunagle.

Maxxis has also announced its sponsorship of LPGA Tour Golfer Candie Kung for the 2004 LPGA season.

Kung began her professional career in August 2001 after a successful NCAA campaign that saw her earn back-to-back First Team All-American honors and a 2000 Pac-10 Championship. In 2002, she solidified her status among the nation’s top women golfers, going on to claim three LPGA Tour titles as well as another top five finish on her way to ending the 2003 season 6th on the LPGA Money List.
