LAS VEGAS — Each year at its annual meeting prior to the kickoff of AAPEX, AWDA bestows the Leader of the Year Award upon an aftermarket professional who has contributed to the industry in a unique and significant manner. Sunday night that award was presented to John Washbish, AAP, of AFFINIA, by his brother, Doug Washbish of Moog Louisville Warehouse.

A 30-plus-year veteran of the industry, Washbish got his start working in his family’s automotive and heavy-duty parts distribution business in Louisville, Ky. In 1975 he graduated from Northwood University’s Automotive Aftermarket Management program. His first job as a graduate was in Defiance, Ohio, for the Zeller Group and AEC, making the purchase of U-joints a “pleasant and enjoyable experience.” In his next job, in Nashville, Tenn., he was responsible for the aftermarket sales division for Michigan Engine Bearings. He went on to hold senior management positions with Clevite Engine Parts and the Dana Corp. In late August 2004, the Dana aftermarket division was sold to the Cypress Group, which announced Washbish as president of Customer Relationship Management for the new AFFINIA Group, and vice president and general manager of the Under Vehicle Group.

“For all of his personal and professional achievements, our man always known the importance of family, faith, friends, fun, as well as his profession. And everyone who’s known him will attest that it’s been truly a “pleasant and enjoyable experience,” said Doug Washbish.

“John exhibits the behavior of a leader, identifying the problems, defining alternative solutions, selecting one, and pursuing that course of action with vigor, enthusiasm and humor,” said Ron Levene of Tier Parts Warehouse.
