SOUTHFIELD, MI — Federal-Mogul and Johnson Controls have signed an agreement to market Federal-Mogul’s Champion brand in the lead-acid storage battery category. Johnson Controls will introduce in April a full line of Champion branded automotive, marine, commercial, utility and motorcycle batteries to the automotive aftermarket.
Federal-Mogul’s Champion brand and the red-and-black “bowtie” logo are icons within the automotive original equipment and replacement parts markets. Champion, whose spark plugs have powered hundreds of racing champions in virtually every form of motor sport including 2007 Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick and five of the past six NASCAR Cup champions is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2007.
“We look forward to the opportunity to further provide options that serve our customers’ needs with not only the best products and services in the industry, but the best brand portfolio. The well respected Champion brand, coupled with our industry leading products and services, is one more way we can drive our customers’ business and provide exceptional value to the end consumer,” said Brian Kesseler, vice president and general manager of Power Solutions, North America, Johnson Controls.
Jay Burkhart, vice president of global marketing, Federal-Mogul, added, “We are excited to be involved with the world leader in the battery category as we launch Champion’s centennial celebration. This new relationship will continue the aggressive growth of the Champion brand within the global transportation marketplace.”
