Seven out of 12 category winners this year were built with Dayco engine products and drive systems.

Dayco, a leading engine products and drive systems supplier for the automotive, industrial and aftermarket industries, announced that an engine built with Dayco products and systems has been named an International Engine of the Year Award winner for the fifth consecutive year. In total, seven of the 12 categories were won by engines designed with Dayco content, the company says.

Ford Motor Co.’s 999cc three-cylinder turbo engine, engineered using the Dayco timing belt-in-oil system for both the primary and oil pump drives, won the Sub 1-liter category for the fifth consecutive year. In the 1.0-liter to 1.4-liter category, PSA Peugeot Citroen’s 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo, also designed with the Dayco timing belt-in-oil system as well as a timing tensioner, idler, accessory drive belt, accessory tensioner and water pump belt, won this category for the second straight year. And in the Above 4.0-liter category, Ferrari won with its 6.3-liter V12 engine, designed with a Dayco accessory drive tensioner.

“Congratulations to Ford Motor Co., PSA and Ferrari on their continued success at the International Engine of the Year Awards,” said Paul DiLisio, senior vice president of automotive and industrial OE sales for Dayco. “We once again thank all of these great organizations for trusting in Dayco to help them earn these well-deserved awards. Our product innovation, such as our automotive timing belt-in-oil system, enables our customers to be at the forefront of technology to improve performance and efficiency.”

Similar to previous years, the jury for the 2016 International Engine of the Year Awards was made up of the world’s most respected motoring journalists, according to Engine Technology International magazine, presenter of the prestigious awards. In total, 62 journalists from 31 countries helped select the 12 award winners. Panelists judged each engine using criteria such as fuel economy, smoothness, performance, noise and drivability. Each panelist had 25 points to award to their five favorite engines in each category, with a maximum of 15 points and a minimum of 1 point to be allocated to an engine.

Additional Dayco engine products and drive systems, such as accessory drive belts, timing belts, tensioners, pulleys and torsional vibration dampers, also are in use on multiple nominated engines. These award-nominated engines are designed by Volkswagen, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Audi.
