Editor’s Note: While much of the world has been watching countries like China pause on its climb to manufacturing fame, other countries, such as Mexico, have continued a steady growth. This week in the On Demand Seminar from GlobalBusinessProfessor.com and GlobalAutoIndustry.com, Ralph Biedermann, from the MRB Group, comes to talk the impacts of Mexico and the significant opportunities that are present in the country, or could soon be available.
Maquila at 50! The Manufacturing Engine of Mexico
Presented by Ralph Biedermann, managing director, México Consulting Associate and president of the MRB Group
Mexico is experiencing a major manufacturing renaissance that represents significant opportunities for manufacturers. Today, the country is the largest exporter of cars and light trucks to the U.S. In addition to the automotive industry, the aerospace and medical device industries are driving a demand to localize more than $50 billion of parts in Mexico. Ralph Biedermann, managing director of México Consulting Associates and president of the MRB Group, shares insights from his extensive experience on opportunities in the manufacturing sector in Mexico in the On Demand Seminar, “Maquila at 50! The Manufacturing Engine of Mexico.”
In the 31-minute seminar, produced by GlobalBusinessProfessor.com and GlobalAutoIndustry.com, Biedermann describes the rapid growth that Mexico’s 50-year-old maquila industry continues to experience. He presents in detail the three predominant industries in Mexico today: medical devices, aerospace and automotive. For each of these industries, he shares specific information on production, export and import volumes, growth rate, employment, foreign direct investment, names and locations of major companies located in Mexico and cost competitiveness as compared to 25 countries. Biederman points out the significant investment opportunities available. In addition, he also describes export promotion prior to the inception of the maquila industry in 1965, the subsequent development and broadening of the Border Industrialization Program and he concludes with a glimpse into Mexico’s promising future.
