Mexico is experiencing a major manufacturing renaissance that represents significant opportunities for manufacturers. Today, the country is the largest exporter of cars and light trucks to the U.S. In addition to the automotive industry, the aerospace and medical device industries are driving a demand to localize more than $50 billion of parts in Mexico. Ralph Biedermann, managing director of México Consulting Associates and president of the MRB Group, shares insights from his extensive experience on opportunities in the manufacturing sector in Mexico in the On Demand Seminar, “Maquila at 50! The Manufacturing Engine of Mexico.”    

In the 31-minute seminar, produced by GlobalBusinessProfessor.com and GlobalAutoIndustry.com, Biedermann describes the rapid growth that Mexico’s 50-year-old maquila industry continues to experience. He presents in detail the three predominant industries in Mexico today: medical devices, aerospace and automotive. For each of these industries, he shares specific information on production, export and import volumes, growth rate, employment, foreign direct investment, names and locations of major companies located in Mexico and cost competitiveness as compared to 25 countries. Biederman points out the significant investment opportunities available. In addition, he also describes export promotion prior to the inception of the maquila industry in 1965, the subsequent development and broadening of the Border Industrialization Program and he concludes with a glimpse into Mexico’s promising future.

Dr. Ralph Biedermann is president of The MRB Group, an international market development firm, located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. He has more than 40 years experience in the industrial, consumer, defense and aerospace fields. The MRB Group works with U.S. and Canadian companies to develop and implement manufacturing, marketing and distribution strategies for Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean Basin and China.
