Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. Participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. In today's installment of "Five Minutes With," we get to know Cary Redman, national sales manager for Edelbrock LLC. Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. Participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. In today’s installment of “Five Minutes With,” we get to know Cary Redman, national sales manager for Edelbrock LLC.

A hands-on enthusiast from an early age, Redman says working for Edelbrock is like “getting to enjoy your favorite hobby every day.” He joined Edelbrock in 2011 and before that was sales manager for Mr. Gasket. He also previously worked for Holley Performance Products. Redman is a graduate of Northwood University and earned his MBA from Ashford University in Iowa. Read on to find out what he loves most about his current position, and what will be the next restored vehicle to roll out of his garage.

cary-redman-feature1.  What was your first job in the industry?

My first job in the industry was working at a CARQUEST parts store in St. Johns, Mich. That’s what I cut my teeth on, then I ended up going to college and my first real job after graduating was with Holley Performance Products.

2.  What do you like best about your current position?

It’s with Edelbrock, which is one of the best-known brands in the industry, and I feel extremely fortunate to be part of the fun team.

3.  Did you initially intend to pursue a career in the aftermarket? If not, what drew you to the industry and what keeps you here?

I did, actually. When I was in high school, half my day was in auto shop or metals, the other half was spent on computers. I figured out as I got through high school that I didn’t want to be dirty all the time, working. I didn’t necessarily enjoy being dirty all the time. I enjoyed the hobby but realized I didn’t want to do it for a living, so I went to Northwood University in Michigan.

4.  What do you do when not at work?

When I’m not at work, I’m enjoying the outdoors, walking and hiking and I’m also an automotive enthusiast. I actually restore vehicles on the side. I’m working on a ’56 Chevy two-door post car right now.

5.  What one word best sums up your personality?

Enthusiastic.

6. What do you currently drive?

I drive a 2011 F-150, supercharged. You have to have a performance vehicle, if you are going to be in the performance industry.

7.  If you could time-travel, to where and what in era would you want to visit?

If I could time travel I would go into the late ’50s early ’60s in Southern California.
