FRANKFURT, Germany — Delphi Automotive Systems Corp wants to double its European market share in the mid-term, Volker Barth, vice-president of the company’s European operations told Focus Money magazine in an interview to appear tomorrow.
Delphi currently has a market share of about 6 percent, far less than European market leader Bosch’s 12.8 percent share, the magazine reported.
As part of its European expansion, Delphi is considering opening a second plant in Romania, Barth told Focus Money.
In addition, he said the U.S. auto parts firm saw further possibilities for expansion in Russia. Delphi is currently involved in a joint-venture in Samara, an important centre for the former Soviet Republic’s air and space industry, Focus Money said.
“I can imagine that we will do some more there,” Barth told the magazine.
Last year Delphi’s European operations achieved sales of approximately $6.5 billion.
