DETROIT — Chrysler has recalled 438,000 PT Cruisers for a defective power steering hose that can leak fluid into the engine compartment. The recall covers 2000-2004 model PT Cruisers.
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the routing of the hose in some of the 2.4 liter automatic versions of the car could cause it to come into contact with the transaxle cover, potentially damaging the hose and allowing steering fluid to leak into the engine.
Nine underhood fires linked to the defect have been reported.
