Chassis Brakes International Brings New Technology To Detroit

The company will showcase brake systems that eliminate need for hydraulic fluid at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Chassis Brakes International, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of automotive brake systems and components, will present a broad range of current and future braking technology for its customers during this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Company executives will host technology presentations on advanced and autonomous braking systems at the Crowne Plaza Detroit Downtown Riverfront hotel during supplier days (Jan. 17-18) at the show.

“Many in the industry think of Chassis Brakes International as a manufacturer of traditional braking products,” said Dennis Berry, president for the company’s Americas region. “We’re here to showcase our current braking technology, but also to stake our claim in the electronic, brake-by-wire and autonomous vehicle realms, as well.”

The company’s new Smart Brake technology, for example, has been designed for tomorrow’s vehicles. This electro-mechanical brake system completely eliminates the use of hydraulic fluid and simplifies vehicle-system architecture. It also simplifies vehicle assembly and end-of-line testing for automakers.

Chassis Brakes recently announced plans to begin production of brake calipers and rotors at a new plant in Queretaro, Mexico, for two major automakers with assembly operations in Mexico and the United States.

Berry said the company, which supplies most of the world’s major automakers, has a global vision that includes leadership in the most advanced technological realms of the industry.

He noted that the company also would be showing current and prototype braking solutions in Detroit that include single- and twin-piston caliper designs from its ZOHe (zero offset harmonized evolution) line. Featured will be a zero-drag brake, designed to reduce CO2 and fine dust emissions with no pedal feel or drag variation over the disc pad’s lifetime.

Chassis Brakes International also will show its line of automated and manual parking brakes in standard and heavy-duty versions for passenger cars, light trucks and SUVs. The lightweight systems are optimized to reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) while providing exceptional clamping force.
