VIENNE, France — Celette S.A. has announced the passing of its founder Germain Celette. Celette died at his home, “le Bastion,” on Nov. 30 in Vienne, France.
Well respected in the industry, Celette got his start in 1952, after responding to a friends’ need to repair a collision damaged Renault 4 CV, one of the first unibody vehicles. Celette created a bench and bracket system that was very successful. It led to the Lyon Simca Co. asking Celette to design a system for its new unibody vehicle. The first fixtures were hand machined, but very early on Celette incorporated AutoCAD, computerized manufacturing and robotics. Celette had an unequaled reputation for the accuracy of his fixture system.
Over the years, Celette built an international company employing more than 500 people.
He is survived by his wife Ann Marie Celette and adopted son Rene Celette-Darmancier.
