OVERLAND PARK, KS — The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) has announced the enrollment of the 2,000th school in its S/P2 program.
Mojave High School, located in North Las Vegas and part of the Clark County School District, became the 2,000th school to sign up for S/P2 earlier this month.
“S/P2 makes teaching environmental and safety issues easy,” said Anthony Chapple, Mojave High School’s automotive instructor. “One of the benefits of the program is it makes students actually learn material. The certificates are wonderful as well. They provide acknowledgement for the students’ achievements and are an excellent addition to portfolios.”
S/P2 is available free of charge to automotive training programs, and with 2,000 schools now enrolled, a student audience of more than 165,000 has access to the training. The S/P2 courseware tracks technician/student progress through the training, grades tests and is constantly updated as changes occur in federal and state laws.
“CCAR is a leader in industry improvement related to safety and environmental awareness through S/P2 training for schools,” said Lin Peacock, executive director-Industry Affairs, National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), who serves as CCAR’s vice chairman. “This milestone is to be celebrated, as the knowledge will help thousands of automotive students prevent pollution and avoid injury, and, in turn, they will carry the best practices and awareness into the workplace as our future employees.”
CCAR developed S/P2 in accord with U.S. EPA and OSHA standards, which require that shop personnel and students be trained at least annually on safety and environmental regulations. An annual industry-wide review of the S/P2 training includes representatives from independent repair businesses, instructors, OEMs, insurance companies and government agencies.
For shops, the business edition of S/P2 is available for a $299 annual subscription per facility. For complete information, visit the S/P2 Web site at sp2.org or call toll-free at 1-866-477-2669.
