The California/Nevada Automotive Wholesalers Association (CAWA) held its annual legislative day in Sacramento last week. A series of meetings were held with key legislative leadership and the executive director of the Bureau of Automotive Repair. The day kicked off with a luncheon with Sen. George Runner (R-CA), the guest of honor. Members discussed with Sen. Runner issues critical to their businesses and the aftermarket industry. Issues included government mandates, e.g., health benefits, continued workers compensation reform, the cost of doing business in California because of governmental regulations and taxation, and opposition to the California Air Resources Board regulation on extended warranties.

Members of the CAWA Board of Directors were introduced on the floor of the State Assembly and Senate and congratulated by the legislators for serving the industry, its members and the citizens of California for fifty years. Later in the day, Assembly Member Nakanishi and Senator David Cox presented the membership with legislative resolutions memorializing the legislature’s congratulatory message.

The day concluded with Senate Republican Leader Sen. Dick Ackerman, giving insight into the current legislative process and outlining the governor’s commitment to business and governmental reform.

Members were also encouraged to host and/or attend legislative in-district meetings in their local communities to meet with legislators and discuss issues of importance to business owners and the automotive aftermarket industry.
