Lanny Barnes Named 2004 Engine Builder Showdown Champ

A single cross-threaded oil pan nut stood between Lanny Barnes and the Clevite Engine Builder Showdown record build time. Despite the minor oversight, Barnes and his Richard Childress Racing partner, Todd Hamm, defeated Mike Maiwald and Shane Parsnow of Hendrick Motorsports in a closely matched race to capture the 2004 Clevite Engine Builder Showdown championship.

TI Automotive Opens Plant in Turkey

TI Automotive, a supplier of fluid storage and delivery systems for cars and trucks, has opened a manufacturing plant in Turkey.

Bendix to Add More Than 30 New Jobs at Ohio Headquarters

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, said it will add more than 30 engineers, information technology specialists and supply chain professionals to support its staff. The company said surging demand for its medium- and heavy-duty truck products has resulted in the need for additional staff. Bendix currently employs 1,800 in North America, including 450 at its Elyria, Ohio, headquarters.

ArvinMeritor Establishes Reman Facility in Plainfield, Ind.

ArvinMeritor Inc. Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket (CVA) group has established new remanufacturing processes at its U.S. remanufacturing facility to create heavy-duty reman aftermarket parts. The QS-9000 certified facility supplies parts under both Meritor and Euclid brand names.

Honeywell CPG Wins Awards for Catalog Excellence

Honeywell Consumer Products Group (CPG) received two awards earlier this month during the annual National Catalog Managers Conference in Orlando, Fla. Honeywell CPG was the recipient of two President’s Awards – one for Catalog Excellence for its newly created CD catalog, and one for Electronic Data Excellence for catalog data and support specifically provided to retailer CSK Automotive.

Sika Automotive Names John Sienkiewicz Vice President, Automotive Sales

Sika Automotive has named John Sienkiewicz vice president – automotive sales. In this role, Sienkiewicz will be responsible for planning and execution of all sales objectives for the automotive division. Sienkiewicz joins Sika from Midwest Stamping where he was vice president of sales and marketing.

Goodyear Names Kramer CFO, Tieken to Retire

Richard Kramer, senior vice president, strategic planning and restructuring for Goodyear Tire & Rubber, has been named executive vice president and CFO, effective June 1. Kramer replaces Robert Tieken, who has been Goodyear’s CFO since May 1994. Tieken will retire on May 31.

ACDelco Becomes Platinum Sponsor of Women’s Board, Donates to Scholarship Program

ACDelco has committed to a “Platinum” sponsorship of the Car Care Council’s 2004 Women’s Board activities. In addition, ACDelco has donated funds to the Women’s Board scholarship program, which will be awarding five scholarships to female students who are pursuing an education in automotive technology, with plans to enter the automotive field upon graduation.

The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) has joined with the University of the Aftermarket to develop and promote a new supply chain management certification program. The supply chain management program is designed for aftermarket professionals involved in sales forecasting, purchasing, procurement, transportation, logistics, warehousing, production and materials control.

New Study Analyzes Role of Females in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Nearly nine of ten female motorists are at least somewhat involved in the decision making process for their household’s vehicle maintenance and repair, according to a new study released by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA). “Vehicle Maintenance & The Female Motorist,” is an analysis of the attitudes and perceptions that drive women’s behavior regarding vehicle maintenance and repair.

NARSA Selects Company to Manage Operations
