Sloan Transportation Products Creates Annual Scholarship for Northwood Students

In August, Sloan Transportation Products Co., established two $1,000 annual scholarships for qualified Northwood University students. Located in Holland, Mich., Sloan is a supplier of heavy truck and trailer products. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in the university’s Automotive Aftermarket Management curriculum’s Heavy Duty Management program or the Heavy Duty Vehicle Technology program.

Brake Parts Inc. Announces the Raybestos Brand Monster Truck Promotion

Brake Parts Inc., manufacturer of Raybestos brand brakes, will launch its new Raybestos brand Monster Truck promotion on Oct. 1. The promotion will run through Dec. 31. When professional service technicians purchase the Raybestos brand Ford F-150 Baja radio controlled truck, they will receive Raybestos brand professional grade product free.

SEMA Businesswomen’s Network Announces Keynote Speaker for Annual Breakfast Meeting

The SEMA Businesswomen’s Network (SBN) has announced the keynote speaker for its annual breakfast held during the SEMA show each year. The SBN breakfast will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 3 from 7:15 to 9 a.m. during the SEMA Show 2004 in Las Vegas. Keynote speaker Dr. Kerry Johnson will present: “Peak Performance; How to Increase Your Business by 70 Percent in Six weeks.” According to University of California research, “trust is worth, on average, 17 percent of the gross price of your product or service.”

TIA Announces 2004 Tire Industry Hall of Fame Inductees

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has announced the names of those who will be inducted into the Tire Industry Hall of Fame for 2004. John Lampe, retired chairman, CEO and president of Bridgestone Americas, and Mario Marangoni, chairman, CEO and president of the Marangoni Group were chosen by a selection committee for their achievements and leadership that have helped shaped the tire industry.

Melling Engine Parts Installs New Information Management System

Melling Engine Parts has selected Omnitek Information Systems, Inc./21st Century Graphic Technologies to upgrade the Melling Engine Parts catalog system and help the company reduce production time. Melling Engine Parts has installed Omnitek’s/21st Century Graphic’s DBMS Catalog Module, Product Guide Image Module, Interchange Module and the PDF Module. According to Paul Hollstein, catalog manager at Melling, the company chose Omnitek /21st Century Graphics Technologies after researching many vendors.

Montgomery, Ala., Hosts Third Minority Automotive Supplier Expo

Representatives of U.S. automakers spent quality time with minority-owned companies last week in Montgomery, Ala., trading information on the business opportunities resulting from Alabama’s status as a hub of automotive manufacturing. The third annual Minority Automotive Supplier Showcase, presented by the Minority Business Participation Corp. at Alabama State University, was designed to connect automotive suppliers with representatives of Hyundai, Honda, Toyota and Mercedes.

Leadership 2010: Learn About Hot Issues for the 21st Century at University Forum

This year at University Forum, Chuck Udell, AAP, will moderate “Best of Leadership 2010 — Hot Issues for the 21st Century.” This session will feature two issues to be selected by Leadership 2010 participants and the University of the Aftermarket leadership as the most relevant issues from this year’s 2010 class. Selection will occur during Session II of Leadership 2010 in September.

Lee Murray Named VP of Marketing for Dana’s Clevite Division

Dana Corp.’s Clevite Engine Parts Division has named Lee Murray, a 30-year Dana veteran, as its new vice president of marketing. In this role, Murray will be responsible for the overall marketing strategy associated with the Clevite, Perfect Circle and Victor Reinz brand products into the aftermarket. With this new position Murray returns to Dana’s aftermarket. Since 1998, he has served as the director of OE sales, North America steering & suspension.

Study Shows 92 Percent in Favor of Right to Repair Legislation

In conjunction with this week’s hearing before a Congressional subcommittee on HR 2735, the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act, Automotive Industry Association (AAIA) President and CEO Kathleen Schmatz held a press conference on Wednesday reiterating the association’s reasons for supporting the measure. At the press conference, AAIA released the results of an independent study conducted that showed 92 percent of respondents are in favor of the Right to Repair legislation.

Johnson Controls Announces New Appointments

Johnson Controls announced new appointments for five of the company’s corporate officers. Senior Vice President and CFO Stephen Roell has been elected executive vice president and CFO. He joined the company in 1982 and has served as CFO since 1991. He was elected as a corporate officer the same year.

Edelbrock and Lingenfelter Partner on New LS1 Series Cylinder Heads

Edelbrock Corp. and Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) are partnering on a new line of cylinder heads for LS1 engines. Prototypes of the cylinder heads will debut in the Edelbrock booth (#22243) at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas on Nov. 2-5.

DuPont Automotive Systems to End Formula One Sponsorship

As part of a larger plan to refocus resources and strengthen the profitability of the Jaguar vehicle brand, Ford Motor Co. recently announced that it is withdrawing from its Formula One racing program at the end of 2004. As a result, DuPont Automotive Systems will also end its Jaguar Formula One Racing sponsorship at year-end.
