SKF Seals Deal with Dana for Heavy Duty Hubcaps

SKF has been awarded a contract to provide a lightweight hubcap solution for Dana Spicer Low Maintenance System wheel-end for heavy-duty axle wheel-end applications. The hubcap system was developed in conjunction with Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group and will be available for use on Dana Spicer steer axles and trailer axles for several major North American truck and trailer manufacturers.

International Unveils Big Bore Engine at Mid-America

International Truck and Engine Corp. offered the first look at its new International brand big bore diesel engine at last week’s Mid-America Trucking Show. The fully emissions compliant engine, in the 11- to 13-liter range, is projected to debut in International Class 8 vehicles in Fall 2007.

Delco Remy to Offer Electrical System Warranty Services at TravelCenters of America

Remy Inc. has announced an exclusive agreement with TravelCenters of America (TA) to enable its customers to access Delco Remy warranty services through TA’s network of company-operated and franchise Truck Service locations. The expanded Delco Remy parts and warranty access, which will began March 1, builds on the proven success of the TA service program, through which 157 North American locations serve as major referral points for emergency and roadside repairs, warranty service and preventive maintenance.

ChevronTexaco Named Volvo Truck and Mack Aftermarket Supplier of the Year

ChevronTexaco Products was named an Aftermarket Supplier of the Year by Volvo Trucks North America, Inc., and Mack Trucks, Inc. during their fourth annual Partnership Plus Awards. The awards were announced in Las Vegas during the Volvo and Mack UPTIME 2005 meeting in February. The event is held for all parts and service personnel from Volvo and Mack dealerships in North America.

U.S. Commercial Truck Sales Up

U.S. retail sales of Class 7 and 8 trucks jumped 42.8 percent in February 2004 from the year prior, even as truck tonnage dropped 2.2 percent for that month, according to reports.

SEC’s Inquiry into Navistar Becomes Formal Investigation

The Securities and Exchange Commission has advised Navistar International that the inquiry it opened into the company’s restatement of its financial results for the fiscal years 2002 and 2003 and the first three quarters of 2004 has now become a formal investigation.

ArvinMeritor and Meritor WABCO Unveil New Medium-Duty Hydraulic ABS/Disc Brake Package

ArvinMeritor and Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems have unveiled their new Premium Hydraulic Braking System for medium-duty truck and bus applications. Meritor WABCO is a joint venture of ArvinMeritor and the WABCO Automotive Products Group of American Standard Companies Inc. The package includes Meritor WABCO’s Hydraulic Power Brake (HPB) — the next-generation of its hydraulic actuation and anti-lock braking system (ABS) — and the Meritor Quadraulic hydraulic disc brake. The package is available immediately for North American original equipment manufacturers’ vehicles.

Navistar Wins Department of Defense Contract for Afghanistan Rebuilding Program

Navistar International Corp. has won a contract from the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to provide vehicles for the Afghanistan National Army to conduct operations in support of rebuilding and providing stability in Afghanistan. The contract has a potential value of $467 million.

Caterpillar to Offer On-Highway Automatic Transmissions

Caterpillar Inc. has developed a complete line of fully automatic, planetary transmissions designed specifically for vocational applications. Production of these transmissions is expected to begin later this year, with availability in 2006. The new vocational on-highway transmissions are based on existing transmissions that have proven themselves in Caterpillar articulated trucks, according to the company.
