Modine Creates Product-Focused Group to Support Truck and Off-Highway HVAC Markets

Modine Manufacturing has created a new product-focused group to support the company’s efforts targeting the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment needs of the truck and off-highway markets. The company also announced a plan to relocate its Harrodsburg, KY-based research and development facility into its technology center in Racine, WI. The new group’s R&D activities, along with systems and applications engineering, will be located in Racine. HVAC production will remain in Harrodsburg.

PACCAR Reports Record Revenues and Profits

PACCAR achieved record revenues and net income for the first quarter of 2006, according to Mark Pigott, chairman and chief executive officer. PACCAR earned $342 million ($2.02 per diluted share) for the first quarter 2006, an increase of 25 percent compared to the $274 million ($1.56 per diluted share) earned in the first quarter of 2005. First quarter net sales and financial services revenues were $3.85 billion versus $3.33 billion for the first quarter of last year. The company’s after-tax return on consolidated revenues (ROR) was a record 8.9 percent in the first quarter of 2006 compared to 8.2 percent in the first quarter of 2005.

Commercial Vehicle Group Reports First Quarter 2006 Results

Commercial Vehicle Group reported revenues of $229.3 million for the first quarter, which ended March 31, up 50.5 percent compared to $152.4 million in the prior-year period. Operating income for the first quarter was $25.5 million, a 52.7 percent increase, compared to $16.7 million last year. Net income for the quarter was $13.4 million, or 62 cents per diluted share, compared to $10.9 million, or 59 cents per diluted share, in the prior-year quarter. Fully diluted shares outstanding for the quarter were 21.5 million compared to 18.3 million in the prior-year quarter.

NAPA Honors Eaton as Heavy Duty Supplier of the Year

Eaton Corp. has been named 2005 Heavy Duty Supplier of the Year by NAPA Auto Parts. The award honors Eaton Hydraulics employees for excellence in supplying Weatherhead hose and fittings for truck and construction equipment to NAPA’s 65 distribution centers, which supply more than 6,000 NAPA stores in the U.S. Eaton earned the top recognition in NAPA’s Heavy Duty Sales group for its achievements in nine important business areas: sales promotions, marketing plans, shipping, product quality, local sales support, in-field training, cataloging, communications and clinics/technical information.

Detroit Diesel Says New G2 Technician Program Offers Many Benefits

Detroit Diesel Corp. (DDC) says its new G2 technician training and certification program is providing Detroit Diesel engine owners with faster service and improved quality. Three months after its official launch, the program has been a success across the company’s extensive service network, according to DDC. The G2, or Guild 2.0, program builds on DDC’s Guild program by training, testing, certifying and rewarding technicians who participate.

NTEA Approves 21 More Companies as MVPs

Twenty-one National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) member companies achieved Member Verification Program (MVP) status in the first quarter of 2006, which ended March 31. The program recognizes members that have implemented minimum business processes and have taken steps to comply with certain government regulations.

PACCAR Accelerates Hybrid Vehicle Programs

Global truck maker PACCAR has targeted an ambitious goal of 30 percent improvement in vehicle fuel efficiency for selected medium-duty applications over the next seven years. The company plans to achieve this by utilizing hybrid technology as a key contributor. Availability of hybrid-powered PACCAR trucks is targeted for 2008 in defined medium-duty applications. PACCAR design engineers are working with Eaton’s Hybrid Power Systems business unit to advance the company’s hybrid leadership position.

Oshkosh Truck Corp. Up for Sale

In response to rumors and speculation following the public filing of Stewart & Stevenson’s preliminary proxy statement relating to its announced proposed sale, Oshkosh Truck Corp. confirmed that it is the company identified in the proxy statement as the “Company A” participant in Stewart & Stevenson’s auction process. Oshkosh Truck Corp. wanted to dispel misimpressions resulting from the proxy statement suggesting that Oshkosh Truck Corp. is either burdened by significant regulatory issues or is significantly constrained in its ability to pursue strategic acquisitions.

ArvinMeritor announced at the Mid-America Truck Show last week that it plans to revitalize its Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) business by refocusing on its Meritor product and services brand. The decision was based on extensive marketing research conducted by the CVS marketing team. To help reinforce its brand position, the company is adopting a new tagline — “Delivering Performance Plus” — to represent its desired position to be recognized as the best-in-class within the “performance” category of products, parts and people.

ArvinMeritor Awarded DaimlerChrysler U.S. 2007 Heavy-Duty Exhaust Emissions Device Packaging Business

ArvinMeritor’s Commercial Vehicle Systems (CVS) group has been awarded the supply of 100 percent of the exhaust aftertreatment device packaging for DaimlerChrysler’s heavy-duty engines for the U.S. market in 2007. The supply of the device packaging, which includes packaging for Detroit Diesel and Mercedes Benz engines designed for Freightliner, Sterling and Western Star brands, will begin with production and delivery in 2007.

Eaton Creates New Vehicle Solutions Business Unit

Eaton Corp. has created has realigned its VORAD and MD Tools Mobile Diagnostics product lines under the new Vehicle Solutions Business Unit (VSBU). With this move, the company said it hopes to transform its business model from a component-based supplier to a systems-based solutions provider. Future VSBU offerings will include integrated diagnostics, safety and other operational management solutions for fleets. A key element of Eaton’s Vehicle Solutions vision is a new product development and sales agreement with @Road, Inc., a Fremont, CA-based provider of on-demand Mobile Resource Management solutions.

Green Named National Truck Equipment Association’s 42nd President

Robert Green has been installed as 42nd president of the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA). Green is president (and co-founder) of his own firm — Robert Green Truck Div., Inc. in Rock Hill, NY. The company — which joined the NTEA in 1990 — is a full-line truck upfitter that includes snow and ice control equipment, cranes, hydraulic systems, service bodies, dump bodies and more. Green was installed earlier this month during the NTEA’s President’s Breakfast and Annual Meeting at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.
