Texas Insurer-Owned Repair Shop Lawsuit Begins Today

The Allstate v. Abbott trial on Texas’ new Insurer-Owned Repair shop law is scheduled to begin this Monday, September 20, at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division. On June 20, 2003, Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed into law Texas House Bill 1131, the Insurer-Owned Repair Facility Legislation. Earlier in the year, the Texas Senate passed the legislation by a unanimous vote of 31 to 0.

Shield Autoglass to Open 108 Outlets in India

Car glass repair and replacement firm Shield Autoglass will open 108 specialized outlets under the brand name ‘Windshield Experts’ by 2008 to have a pan India presence for tapping the burgeoning market, with an investment of $4.5 million.

Earl Scheib Terminates Letter of Intent With Elden Holding Group, LLC

The board of directors of Earl Scheib, Inc., today announced it has elected to terminate the Letter of Intent previously entered into on May 13, with Elden Holding Group, LLC, a private real estate investment company. Elden had proposed to acquire all of the company’s issued and outstanding capital stock for approximately $15 million, plus assumption of certain transaction and related costs estimated at more than $2 million.

Exco Sells its Paint Lasing Business

Exco Technologies Limited, which serves the die-cast, extrusion and automotive industries, has sold its paint lasing business to Emerald Graphics, a private North American automotive interior decorative supplier. The asset sale took effect Aug. 30.

ABRA Auto Body & Glass Celebrates 20th Anniversary

ABRA Auto Body & Glass, a Minneapolis-based collision repair company, is celebrating 20 years in business. The company was started in June of 1984, when Rollie Benjamin, ABRA’s president and CEO, opened ABRA’s first repair center in Fridley, Minn., in an upscale, commercial development. After two decades, ABRA now operates 68 corporate repair centers and 21 franchised centers in ten states and six major markets.

LKQ Corporation Acquires Albert Lea Auto Salvage, Inc.

LKQ Corp. has acquired Albert Lea Auto Salvage, Inc., a privately held company that operates a recycled OEM automotive replacement parts facility. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Located south of Minneapolis in Albert Lea, Minn., Albert Lea Auto Salvage will service the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul area, and provide a strategic link within LKQ’s network of facilities.

Earl Scheib Sold to Elden Holding Group

Automotive paint shop chain Earl Scheib Inc. has been sold to Elden Holding Group LLC for $17 million in cash. Elden Holding Group is a California-based real estate investment firm.
