BETHESDA, MD — The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) set a record for attendance at its annual summer meeting held recently in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
“I’m thrilled to report that this was the largest group of attendees since the Women’s Board has been in existence,” said Jennifer Tio, president of the Car Care Council Women’s Board. “It shows that more and more members of our industry are learning about the Women’s Board and its accomplishments. Communicating to female consumers is critical to the success of the aftermarket and the response to this meeting suggests that the industry is taking this activity very seriously.”
The day and a half meeting featured speakers and strategic planning geared toward consumer education and automotive careers for women. Speakers included Larry Hoofnagle, Brake Parts Inc.; Jim John, Northwood University; and Kathleen O’Connor-Byrnes, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
In addition, Ray Datt, AIA Canada, presented their adoption of the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign; Dan Kaplan, AAIA, discussed the results of the recent AAIA research study on female vehicle maintainers; Jon Owens, Babcox Publications, discussed the Automotive Communications Council (ACC); Neal Zisper, MEMA, gave an update on AAPEX; and Rich White, AAIA, gave an update on the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign.
During the meeting, participants met in their work group committees, which include consumer education, recruitment and retention of women in the aftermarket, membership and the Automotive Communications Awards, the Women’s Board scholarship program, and industry communications and support, to develop strategies and tactics for the remainder of 2004.
