Action Executive to Join Jeff Gordon, Inc.

John Bickford Sr., executive vice president of strategic alliances for motorsports merchandise company Action Performance, has resigned to take the position of vice president and general manager of star NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon’s Jeff Gordon, Inc. Bickford will also oversee Gordon’s other business related interests.

Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance Adds Warehouse Distributor

Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance (Alliance) has added Norwood Motor Parts Co. to its membership. Based in Brockton, Mass., the warehouse distributor brings with it 20 Allied Auto Parts stores. With this addition, the Alliance’s membership now reaches 56 shareholders with combined sales in excess of $3 billion.

ExxonMobil Brings Two New Motor Oil Formulas to Market

ExxonMobil has unveiled a new synthetic motor oil for light trucks and SUVs. The new Mobil 1 Truck & SUV Formula, designed for use in both gasoline and diesel engines, protects truck and SUV engines in high temperature conditions, according to the company. The company also recently introduced its new Mobil 1 Racing 0W-30 formula, designed to give high-performance automotive enthusiasts the same boost and protection as professional race car drivers.

PPG Succeeds in Federal Court Against Refinish Components

PPG Automotive Refinish has won a major battle in the fight against illegally imported paint products. On February 18, the U.S. Federal District Court in Atlanta found John Malyon and Original Direct, both of Conyers, Ga., to be in contempt of court for violating a previous order enjoining them from selling illegally imported PPG paint and circumventing PPG’s authorized distribution network.

Lear Considers Closing Auburn Hills Seat Plant

Auto supplier Lear Corp. says it might in May close a seat-making plant in Auburn Hills, Mich., that employs about 325. Lear sent a letter this month warning the State of Michigan that the plant will close, but a spokesperson said its fate depends on UAW talks.

American Tire Distributors (ATD) hosted its first national TireStarz Dealer Conference March 4 – 7. Ninety-nine dealers and their guests attended the four-day session at the Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn. BorgWarner Morse TEC has taken a major step forward in its strategic globalization plan with the opening of new plant in Korea. Morse TEC Korea was formed in 2002 in support of the company’s business relationship with Hyundai Motor Co. The new 34,250-square-foot plant is located in Pyongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, Korea.
