Dana Cuts 2004 Earnings Outlook

Dana Corp. announced yesterday that it has cut its 2004 earnings expectations from $1.90 per share to a range of $1.60 to $1.65 per share, excluding non-recurring items. Dana Chairman and CEO Michael Burns said that Dana Corp., like most of the industry, is being impacted by the rising cost of steel and other raw materials, in addition to reduced North American light-vehicle production volumes.

Exide Technologies CEO to Resign, Company Names New CFO

Craig Muhlhauser, president and CEO of Exide Technologies, has announced he will leave the company on or before April 1, 2005. Mulhauser did not provide a reason for his resignation, other than to say that with the company’s successful emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and with a new board in place it was time for him to pursue new opportunities.

The Car Care Council is planning to help re-define and promote the term “tune-up” in its 2005 public relations and marketing activities by incorporating a 21st century tune-up concept through the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign. Press releases, radio and TV spots, media spokesperson pitches and the Web site will include 21st century tune-up information. National Car Care Month activities in April will also incorporate the 21st century tune-up.

Americans Continue to Log Miles Despite High Gas Prices; Aftermarket Expenditures May Suffer However

Higher prices at the gas pump haven’t kept Americans from driving, according to new market research conducted by MEMA’s Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA). Total mileage for June and July, the most recent figures available, show that the miles American drivers are tallying up has increased from the same months in 2003.

Apogee Enterprises Announces Board of Director Changes

Apogee Enterprises, which develops value-added glass products and services for the automotive, architectural and large-scale optical industries, has announced election of a new director and resignation of an existing director. Apogee’s board of directors has nine members. Mark Burke has been elected to the Apogee board of directors and will serve on its finance committee. Robert Edwards, executive vice president and CFO of Safeway Inc., has resigned from the Apogee board of directors.
