CHARLOTTE, NC — American Tire Distributors (ATD), whose purchase of Target Tire’s wholesale business earlier this month created voids in American Car Care Centers’ (ACCC) program, has formally joined ACCC as a full member distributor.
ATD will take over much of the ACCC territory previously covered by Target Tire, including all customers in North and South Carolina, Georgia and southeastern Tennessee.
The western portion of Virginia that was previously part of Target’s ACCC territory was assigned to Terry’s Tire Town, based in Alliance, Ohio, which is servicing ACCC dealers from its warehouses in Baltimore and Alliance.
“When Target Tire sold the business to ATD, we were approached by several interested parties,” said Len Lewin, ACCC’s president and COO. “Our corporate charter provided for the ACCC stock to return to the corporation with the change of ownership, so this presented us with a unique opportunity.
“Target Tire and the dealers in the Southeast were among the most loyal ACCC supporters in the country, so we knew we had to evaluate the options and move quickly,” Lewin said. “Ultimately the board of directors agreed that the best long-term solution was to bring ATD into the group as a member distributor for the southeast markets.
“By joining forces, both groups will work together to improve the overall program for our ACCC dealers,” said Lewin. “ATD will represent ACCC in the southeast markets only. As both companies become more familiar with each other, the possibilities for growth and expansion clearly exist.”
ATD Chairman and CEO Dick Johnson said, “We are pleased to offer the ACCC program to our southeastern dealers. By becoming an ACCC member distributor, we will have the ability to offer another strong program option to our existing dealer customers.”
