Abaris Receives SME’s Excellence In Composites Manufacturing Award

SME said that the Excellence in Composites Manufacturing Award identifies and showcases companies that have excelled in manufacturing products made from advanced composite materials.

Abaris Training was recognized at the SME AeroDef/Composites Manufacturing Conference held Feb. 8-10, in Long Beach, California, for more than three decades of service to the advanced composite manufacturing industry. Abaris was recognized as this year’s “small company” award recipient.

Louis “Lou” Dorworth accepted the award on behalf of the company, which was presented by David Dickson, representing SME’s Composite Manufacturing Technical Group awards committee, at the awards luncheon.

SME stated that, “This award is presented to companies that demonstrate excellence in the field of advanced composites manufacturing. The Excellence in Composites Manufacturing Award identifies and showcases companies that have excelled in manufacturing products made from advanced composite materials. They have developed innovative tooling and/or manufacturing process techniques that will help manufacture future products made from these materials and have shown accelerated growth by providing superior service, quality or cost reduction initiatives that advance the composites manufacturing industry overall. Awards are made to both small and large companies.”

SME said that Abaris’ has been instrumental in teaching and assisting the composites industry through training and consultation efforts since 1983. During that time, Abaris has taught more than 23,000 students in 63 countries about composite materials and processes, providing courses and services in engineering, manufacturing and repair of advanced composite structures.
