BETHESDA, MD — Texas Congressman Joe Barton (R) and Bill Glasgow Sr., head of the show management firm W.T. Glasgow, Inc. were honored during the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association’s (AAIA) Town Hall ceremony on Nov. 2 at AAPEX at breakfast at the Venetian in Las Vegas.
Rep. Barton, of Texas’ 6th district, was recognized as the recipient of AAIA’s 2005 Outstanding Service Award. The Outstanding Service Award is given to those who have shown their dedication to the causes and ideals of the industry, through countless hours of volunteer time spent to accomplish a goal.
Barton fulfilled this criteria as he helped push for the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act. Barton has been involved in this issue since 2001, and in May 2005, during the 109th Congress he introduced H.R. 2048, the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act. He currently serves as chairman of the House Committee on Energy Commerce, and has been in Congress for more than two decades.
Glasgow was presented with the 2005 AAIA Automotive Aftermarket Executive of the Year Award also during the town hall breakfast. This award is presented to an outstanding individual in recognition of exemplary leadership in the aftermarket industry and commitment to the betterment of their community. The award honors a single automotive aftermarket executive who has demonstrated the highest level of support for and dedication to the goals of the association and to the advancement of the aftermarket industry.
The award is not presented annually, but is instead given only when there is a truly deserving recipient. The last time the award was presented was in 2003.
Bill Glasgow, Sr. has enjoyed a successful career in the trade show business from his early beginnings at the Chicago Hilton Towers; general manager of Greyhound Foods at McCormick Place; vice president and show manager of the Consumer Electronics Show; and for the past 20 years, president of his family-owned and operated trade show management firm, W. T. Glasgow, Inc. Glasgow launched his company with the management contract of the former APAA Show.
When APAA merged with the Big I Show, Glasgow was awarded the management contract for the combined event, known today as AAPEX. In addition to AAPEX, Glasgow currently manages PAACE Automechanika Mexico and Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week (HDAW), which makes its debut in January 2006.
