AAAS Announces 2008 Scholarship Recipients

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Automotive Aftermarket Association Southeast Educational Foundation (AAASEF) Chairman Rob Harris of Harris Auto Parts, Inc. in Columbiana, Ala. has announced the winners of the 2008 AAASEF scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Students sponsored by Automotive Aftermarket Association Southeast (AAAS) members selected to receive the scholarships are:

• Leah Cofer – Calera, Ala.

• Thomas Rogers, Jr. – Alexander City, Ala.

• Krystal Parker – Alabaster, Ala.

• Kristen Taylor – Hoover, Ala.

• Emily Edwards – Alabaster, Ala.

• Christopher Terrell – Boaz, Ala.

• Meradith Dunn – Pike Road, Ala.

• Joshua Roper – Honoraville, Ala.

Thomas Rogers, Jr. was awarded the special honor of receiving the Stanley E. Waits Memorial Scholarship. The Stanley E. Waits Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually and is endowed by Associate Jobbers Warehouse, Inc. (AJW) in Boaz, Ala., members and friends.

Chairman Harris also announced that AAASEF has reserved scholarship funds for association members and employees wishing to further their education or enhance their skills at trade schools, junior colleges, manufacturer sponsored clinics, etc. This effort is aimed at enhancing and expanding the capabilities of AAAS members and employees. The Chairman thanks all of the association members and industry contributors for their efforts in making this valuable program possible.

AAAS, along with several other associations, collaborated with the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium (GAAS) Scholarship Committee to create an online scholarship resource for students planning to pursue careers in the automotive aftermarket. Through this cooperative effort, students were able to complete one online application at www.automotivescholarships.org and receive consideration for the AAASEF, the GAAS scholarships and other industry awards.

“We are pleased to have Automotive Aftermarket Association Southeast join us in the important work of creating this valuable resource for students and promoting this investment in our industry’s future,” said Pete Kornafel, chairman of the GAAS Scholarship Selection Committee. “Automotivescholarships.org will begin accepting applications in September 2008 for the 2009 scholarships, and we look forward to a continued partnership with Automotive Aftermarket Association Southeast,” he continued.
