Wagner Brake Engineers Explain Transition To Low- And Zero-Copper Brake Pads

New video at WagnerBrake.com highlights the science behind Wagner ThermoQuiet low-copper technology.

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan – Automotive service providers and other aftermarket professionals can learn more about the industry’s transition to low- and zero-copper brake pads through a brief technical video now available on the Wagner Brake brand’s website, www.WagnerBrake.com. Wagner Brake is among the brands leading the industry’s rapid transition to low-copper technology and currently provides a full line of highly advanced ceramic disc brake pads that comply with 2021 low-copper requirements.

The new video, featuring Federal-Mogul Product Development Manager Sarah Olson, explains the global implications of recent legislation mandating the dramatic reduction of copper and other potentially hazardous materials in original equipment and replacement brake pads. Olson is part of the engineering team that developed a broad portfolio of low- and zero-copper formulations.

In 2013, Wagner Brake introduced a full line of 2021-compliant Wagner ThermoQuiet CeramicNXT replacement brake pads featuring the brand’s exclusive OE21 low-copper friction technology. In the OE market, more than 1 million vehicles by 2015 will be equipped with Federal-Mogul’s low- or zero-copper pads, the company estimates.

“We continue to extend our leadership in low-copper technology with a number of first-to-market 2021-compliant brake pads for late-model vehicles,” said Chris Battershell, director of braking, North America, Federal-Mogul Vehicle Components division. “As the market leader, we feel it is important not only to explain why low-copper legislation is affecting all parts and service providers, but also to detail the significant performance advantages of our new, compliant technology.”

According to Federal-Mogul, testing has shown that Wagner ThermoQuiet brake pads featuring the OE21 formulations offer 15 percent more stopping power, are 35 percent quieter and provide up to 40 percent greater fade resistance than previous Wagner ceramic formulations. “These are the best ceramic formulations – in terms of overall braking performance – Wagner has ever developed,” Battershell said.
