WABCO Gains Recognition For Continued Success In China

WABCO's president of Asia region named among 'Top 100 New Leaders' in China's economy.

SHANGHAI, China – WABCO Holdings Inc., a global technology leader and tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, announced that Dr. Leon Liu, president, WABCO Asia, has been named among the “Top 100 New Leaders” in China’s economy in 2013 by China Economic News, a leading business magazine published in China.

The award was presented recently at the China Economic Summit Forum held in Beijing and jointly hosted by People’s Daily, a leading Chinese newspaper. This award further recognizes WABCO’s continued growth and success in China. It commends Dr. Liu’s leadership for a decade during which WABCO has further solidified its position in China as the supplier of choice for new technologies and control systems that help original equipment manufacturers to develop and build safer and more efficient trucks, buses and trailers. Dr. Liu was the only executive in the Chinese commercial vehicle industry named as one of the “Top 100 New Leaders” in China’s economy.

“I am honored to be named among the new leaders of China’s economy as this award recognizes WABCO’s growing success in China, the world’s largest market in the commercial vehicle industry,” said Liu. “WABCO is committed to further extending its local capabilities for innovation while continuing to invest in research, development and manufacturing in China. What differentiates WABCO is our strategy of ‘design for China’ as we continue to deliver optimal localized solutions for safer and greener commercial vehicles, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the Chinese economy.”

Based in Shanghai, WABCO China has more than 1,500 employees, including local engineers. Its new product development center is located in Shanghai. Four factories across China are fully integrated with WABCO’s global manufacturing and sourcing network and they operate using world-class Six Sigma Lean production standards.

Liu joined WABCO in his current position in January 2005. Born in China, he earned his engineering degree at DongHua University in Shanghai. He then earned his MBA at Michigan State University and his Ph.D. in materials engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Prior to WABCO, Liu gained extensive management and engineering experience in the automotive sector in the United States and Asia.
