“Hard work can come from anyone, and at Bilstein, we are dedicated to hiring people of all abilities,” said Fabian Schmahl, president and CEO, thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America. “We are extremely proud to be recognized by the OhioGovernor’s Council for this achievement and hope to set a positive example for companies looking to follow a similar path.”

Currently, the company has hired a total of 15 individuals with disabilities through a partnership with the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ job development program. Team members work a variety of entry-level positions across the plant floor and warehouse, with many working full-time and receiving full benefits.

“We congratulate thyssenkrupp Bilstein of America on receiving this honor,” said Matthew Sauer, Ph.D., chair of the Ohio Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities. “Our panel of judges was truly impressed with the company’s commitment to not only hiring people with disabilities, but making them full members of their team.”

In 2015, the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities also awarded thyssenkrupp Bilstein the 2015 Employer of the Year Award. In addition, the company’s Project LIFE internship program is designed to assist young adults with disabilities in building foundational skills needed for work, adulthood and social aspects of daily life.

“Each member of our team has made our company the leader it is today,” said Schmahl. “We are proof that hiring people with disabilities works, and we are focused on providing opportunities that help them gain independence, develop confidence and see success in their careers.”
