SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – During 2014, The Marx Group will celebrate 30 years serving the aftermarket as one of the industry’s leading marketing communications agencies.

Beginning in Southern California in 1984, The Marx Group was founded by Tom Marx, seeking to combine his passion for autos with his knack for marketing. Marx’s experience as a racecar driver, repair shop owner and mail order parts specialist provided the solid foundation on which he built the business.

By the late 1990s, The Marx Group had a mix of aftermarket clients spread across the United States. Offering branding, public relations and integrated marketing services, The Marx Group moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1997, located in the heart of the city’s financial and advertising district. In 2003, The Marx Group headquarters settled into its current location in Marin County’s San Rafael.

By this time, the company had expanded its operations across the nation with offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Denver and Nashville, and became increasingly involved in industry associations including the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the Auto Care Association (formerly AAIA), the Automotive Communication Council (ACC), the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), the Automotive Parts Remanufacturers Association (APRA) and many more. A former ACC president, Marx currently serves on the Board of Governors.

Today, The Marx Group offers more than marketing services – many automotive and heavy-duty aftermarket manufacturers look to The Marx Group for help developing marketing strategy. The Marx Group has become highly regarded within the industry for its consulting services, hosting numerous marketing seminars at industry tradeshows and having worked with some of the largest and most respected companies in the automotive aftermarket. The Marx Group portfolio includes a client list of industry heavyweights such as Delphi, DENSO, MAHLE and VIPAR Heavy Duty.

The Marx Group has garnered numerous awards through the years, both in and out of the auto care industry. Top accolades include recognition from: Automotive Aftermarket Global Design Awards, MarCom Creative Awards, Automotive Communication Council Awards, American Graphic Design Awards, Annual Communicator Awards and International Davey Awards.

To commemorate this milestone, from now until December, The Marx Group will release short excerpts of the company’s history through articles and videos. The Marx Group dedicated
website, www.themarxgroup.com/30Years, will contain all materials supporting the celebration.

Do you speak spark plug? Most part numbers are a meaningless series of numbers and letters. But spark plugs have a language on the side of the box that can tell you what’s inside. Like any other language, there are dialects.

The nomenclature of spark plug part numbers can tell you everything from size (diameter and reach) to what materials are on the center and ground electrode. Like learning a new language, knowing how to translate spark plug numbers can open up a new way to inventory and sell spark plugs for counter professionals.
