Taiwan – top supplier in the automotive aftermarket

Ninety-percent of Taiwan’s auto parts output is for export. In 2016, export value of Taiwanese auto parts was around US $6.93 billion. Major export markets are the U.S., Japan, China, U.K., Australia, Mexico, Canada and Germany, among which the U.S. is the largest exporting market for Taiwan, occupying 43.5 percent of Taiwan’s total export amount. Well-known for its tight central-satellite factory system, high production flexibility, fast development time, and highly customized service, Taiwan has been a reliable partner for many car brands and automotive aftermarket distributors.

Taiwan’s main export products are aftermarket parts and accessories, such as lamps, bumpers, rearview mirrors, wheels and rims, interior and exterior plastic parts, collision parts and tires. Approximately 80 percent of Taiwan exports go to the global aftermarket, making Taiwan one of the most important supply bases for aftermarket replacement auto parts. Taiwan’s auto lamp production value is highest in the world, occupying 60 to 70 percent of the global auto lamp aftermarket. Taiwan’s collision parts value is also a global pinnacle, with its rubber & plastics parts capturing 70 percent of the global market, and auto metal plates securing 35 percent of the global market.

Taiwan continues to burst high horsepower in auto electronics

According to Strategy Analytics, the global auto electronics production value was US $243.8 billion in 2016 and is expected to reach US $303.4 billion in 2020, with CAGR of 5.6 percent. In recent years, the main momentum driving the growth of the auto electronics market derives from the auto safety and control relevant products, in which Taiwan is ready to be an ideal partner for the global buyers. Boasting its solid ICT know-how and experience, Taiwan is greatly leveraging its advantage and is dedicated to the development of TPMS, HUD, navigation, LED lighting, automotive panels, automotive diodes, imaging systems, Infotainment system, ADAS, collision warnings, LDWS, telematics and driver fatigue detection. Taiwanese suppliers have been playing a significant role in the automotive electronics supply chain, being the top supplier of automotive panels, and capturing global market shares exceeding 40 percent; Cubtek’s universal TPMS has the top market share in the North American aftermarket; Actron’s automotive diodes and Macauto’s auto sun shade are ranked first in the global market; Tung Thih’s parking radars constitute the world’s leading three companies. In addition to the original auto industry players, more and more Taiwanese ICT conglomerates have been involved in the auto electronics market, including TSMC, MTK, Foxconn, ASUS, Quanta, and LiteOn, and others. With the development of self-driving technology, Taiwanese suppliers are ready to help the industry achieve its goals for safer, higher performance, smarter, more energy-efficient, and connected vehicles. By leveraging the world-class capability in ICT, semiconductor, electronics and auto parts fields, Taiwan has well integrated all its cross-industries expertise and experience, and is your ideal partner for the booming sector.
