Schaeffler - LogoAs automakers continue to improve vehicle fuel economy to meet upcoming U.S. government regulations, there is a strong focus on advanced transmission improvements and innovations given their cost-effectiveness. Schaeffler, as a global leader in drive train optimization technologies, will discuss the company’s advanced transmission solutions at the International Car Training Institute’s (CTi) 9th Automotive Transmissions, HEV and EV Drives Symposium and Exhibition May 18-21 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan.

Schaeffler’s Philip George, director advanced development; Matthew Frary, business development manager, transmission; and Brian Lee, senior advanced product development engineer, will discuss Schaeffler’s latest transmission optimization efforts at the event. Schaeffler, a key event sponsor for the fifth year, will also exhibit at the event. The company will showcase key technologies related to the three presentations, its Hybrid Module, AWD Disconnect components, as well as its Efficient Future Mobility North America Concept Vehicle that demonstrates the company’s market-ready solutions for cost-effectively meeting 2025 CAFE requirements.

“As the 2025 CAFE regulations continue to approach, we’re working closely with our automaker customers to provide the needed drive train advancements that will allow them to cost effectively meet the new standards,” Jeff Hemphill, chief technology officer, Schaeffler. “Forums like the CTi Symposium allow us to present and discuss our work in an effort to drive and inspire new optimizations.”

At the conference, George will participate in the “Road to Achievement of the USA/Global Regulations” panel at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20. The panel is slated to address a number of questions and topics related to hybrid technologies, trends, approaches and outcomes before taking questions from the audience.

At 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Frary will discuss transmission components in his “Schaeffler One-way Clutch to Meet Future Powertrain Needs” presentation. During the session, Frary will discuss the company’s low friction roller one-way clutch, wedge one-way clutch and switchable one-way clutch.

At 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Lee is presenting “A Novel Clutch Solution for Use in AWD Disconnect” in the NVH session. During his presentation, Lee will review the wedge clutch disconnect with magnetic actuation system, discuss clutch functional testing and its comparison to dog clutch performance, and present new implementation concept for Power Take-off Unit (PTU) disconnects.

Created and organized by CTi, the 9th International Automotive Transmissions, HEV and EV Drives Symposium and Exhibition offers an international exchange of experiences and opinions between key automotive representatives. Participants, including automakers, transmission manufacturers and suppliers from the United States, Europe and Asia, will discuss the latest in technical developments and applications for conventional and alternative drives.
