The Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA) has announced the election of Peter Butterfield, chairman and CEO, Omega Environmental Technologies, to the position of chairman of the MERA Board of Directors. Butterfield succeeds Shawn Zwicker, global operations leader, remanufacturing, Cummins Inc., who will continue to serve on the MERA Board as a member of the executive committee.
“It is an honor to have been elected as the next chairman of MERA,” said Butterfield. “I believe MERA has grown to become the preeminent trade association for the remanufacturing industry, and I look forward to building upon the leadership and success of Shawn Zwicker and MERA Founding Chairman Michael Cardone Jr.”
“Peter Butterfield is a proven leader,” remarked Zwicker. “He was a vice chairman of MERA during my tenure, and he is ready to serve MERA members as we continue our mission to advance the remanufacturing industry and the business interests of our members.”
“On behalf of the entire MERA Board of Directors, I thank Shawn Zwicker for his outstanding and dedicated service,” added John Chalifoux, president and chief operating officer, MERA. “Peter Butterfield’s experience as an OEM executive and owner of an independent remanufacturer and supplier company will help MERA in its quest to further unite the remanufacturing industry.”
As chairman of Omega Environmental Technologies, Butterfield acquired and integrated two additional AC distribution companies, and created the second-largest air conditioning aftermarket distributor in the U.S. Butterfield’s extensive career spans 40 years in the automotive industry, with time spent at Ford Motor Co., Volvo Cars of North America and Kia Motors America. Following his OE career, Butterfield acquired ATK North America, which he successfully restructured and subsequently sold to LKQ. Butterfield earned his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and his AMP from Harvard Business School.
