OBITUARY: Maurice Schwarz, President, EIS Automotive Corp.

Maurice was president of EIS Automotive Corp., a family business founded by his father, Ernest I. Schwarz and headquartered in Middletown, Conn. He was a prominent member of the automotive aftermarket and served in leadership positions of ASIA and MEMA, as well as the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. He served on the board of directors of Parker Hannifin Corp. and Hartford National Bank.

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Maurice Leopold Schwarz, industrialist, philanthropist, and community leader, died at 92 after a brief illness. Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., his family moved to Middletown, Conn., in 1940. He met his wife, Ruth Hoffman, and married her 70 years ago on June 20, 1943. Maurice was a resident of Glenmeadow in Longmeadow, MA and formerly lived in Boca Raton, Fla., Clinton, Conn., Saybrook, Conn., and Middletown, Conn.
 
Maurice was president of EIS Automotive Corp., a family business founded by his father, Ernest I. Schwarz and headquartered in Middletown, Conn. He was a prominent member of the automotive aftermarket and served in leadership positions of ASIA and MEMA, as well as the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. He served on the board of directors of Parker Hannifin Corp. and Hartford National Bank.
 
Philanthropy was a basic tenet of his life. He was president of the EIS Foundation, a charitable organization founded by his family. He was a member of Congregation Adath Israel in Middletown. In past years, he served as president and as a member of the board. He also served as board member for The Art Museum of Boca Raton, The Haven of Boca Raton, the Schepens Eye Research Institute, WXEL, a public television station in South Florida, Middletown Family Services, and Middlesex Memorial Hospital. He was a commissioner for the South Farms District of the Middletown Fire Department. Maurice served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children, Jeffrey (Arline), of Higganum, Conn., Nedra S. Mirkin of Enfield, Conn., Michael (Ellen) Schwarz of Texas, and Charles (Tara) Schwarz of Tallahassee, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Gary (Elizabeth) Schwarz, David (Laurie) Schwarz, Andrew (Susan) Mirkin, Lisa (Joel) Rothenberg, Jonathan (Janice) Schwarz, Gretchen (John) Callahan, Samantha Schwarz and Alexander, Tyler, Maxwell, Kyle, Tucker and Garritt Schwarz; 10 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jake, Makayla, Stephen, Rebecca, Alexander, Hunter, Jax,  Jack and Jada, and his sister, Myrna Price of Boca Raton, FL. He also had an extended family of
nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Funeral services were held June 27. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Adath Israel Synagogue, 8 Broad Street, P.O. Box 337, Middletown, CT 06457. Doolittle Funeral Home, Middletown is handling the arrangements.
