Obituary: Barry Margulis, President Of SMB International, Passes Away At 78

Barry J. Margulis, of Manasquan, New Jersey, died May 8 after a short illness.

Margulis spent more than 30 years in the automotive aftermarket industry. He was most recently president of SMB International, the West Long Branch, New Jersey firm he founded in 2009 with his son, Scott. Margulis was recognized as an innovator in the industry, especially in package design and marketing. Gregarious by nature, he built many long-lasting business relationships and was respected by associates and competitors alike.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Barry graduated from Madison high school and attended Brooklyn College. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves during peacetime.

He combined his two passions: boating and family. Margulis loved to captain his yacht after carefully planning a lengthy excursion or just spending an afternoon close to his seashore home. Though he had a wealth of friends, he most enjoyed cruising with family members most, always going out of his way to assure that there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Margulis is survived by the love of his life, Sheila, his wife of 53 years; their three children, Scott, Staci and Brett; and seven grandchildren.
