New VDO REDI-Sensor Pioneers TPMS Service Breakthrough With Multi-Application Capability, Company Says

Works with all existing scan tools; no new tools or programming required.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The new VDO REDI-Sensor multi-application TPMS sensor provides a game-changing advancement in TPMS service for tire dealers, auto service facilities and parts distributors, the company says.

Designed to work on multiple vehicle applications, REDI-Sensor can replace a wide variety of OE sensors, works with existing scan tools and saves significant time and money for parts and service professionals.

Unlike other multi-application sensors that are supplied as blank units and need to be programmed with a specialized tool and software, VDO REDI-Sensor is ready to use right out of the box.

REDI-Sensor is designed to work with all leading TPMS scan tools, including tools from ATEQ, Bartec, OTC and T.I.P.S. Unlike other sensors that require the purchase of new specialized programming tools and software upgrades, REDI-Sensor requires no additional purchases, TPMS training or investments.

REDI-Sensor can also save time during the vehicle relearn process when used with scan tools that incorporate a hunt mode. REDI-Sensor uses an "intelligent design" to wake faster and deliver positive results sooner. This prevents the relearn process from timing out and eliminates the need to redo the procedure.

REDI-Sensor relearns to the vehicle as easily as the OE sensor and the scan tool relearn process is unchanged from OE. With Chrysler vehicles, REDI-Sensor is self-learning —just like the original equipment. All the technician needs to do is install and drive.

With REDI-Sensor, service shops only need to keep a small supply of REDI-Sensors on hand to be ready to service practically any vehicle that comes in. This will help eliminate service delays experienced with existing TPMS replacement parts.

VDO REDI-Sensor is the most versatile TPMS sensor in the market, according to the company. It replaces a host of OE sensors, including banded, snap-in and clamp-in models from Continental, Lear, Schrader, Siemens VDO and TRW. This means WDs and parts stores can substantially reduce the number of SKUs required to provide full TPMS coverage.

VDO REDI-Sensor was specifically developed for the aftermarket by Continental, one of the industry’s leading manufacturers of Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems for original equipment.

According to Howard Laster, director, product portfolio and new business development, Continental Corp., Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket, "REDI-Sensor represents the first time Continental has used its engineering resources to develop a totally new product concept, specifically designed to meet the aftermarket’s needs. We feel that it will go a long way in helping to simplify the complex and challenging requirements of tire pressure monitoring system service and make it easier for parts stores to stock and sell TPMS replacements parts."

VDO REDI-Sensor is offered in 314.9/315 MHz and 433.92 MHz configurations and provides multi-application coverage for a broad range of popular cars, vans, SUVs, crossovers and light trucks from GM, Ford and Chrysler. Model year coverage extends from 2002 through 2011 for Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Lincoln, Mercury, Pontiac and Saturn.

According to Steve Landis, TPMS product manager, applications for Asian and European vehicles are currently in development.

"We’re working on the next phase of REDI-Sensor to complement our excellent domestic coverage," he said. "Our complete program is targeted to cover over 90 percent of all vehicles in North America and replace over 100 OE sensors."

Continental’s OE engineering team developed VDO REDI-Sensor to help reduce the complexity and proliferation of parts in the aftermarket and meet the growing need for standardization in TPMS service. VDO REDI-Sensor is a true multi-application TPMS sensor backed by OEM technology, quality and expertise. It is validated to deliver OE fit, function and reliability.

Made in ISO-certified facilities to the same quality standards as the parts supplied to automakers worldwide, REDI-Sensor features a waterproof design and technically superior valve sealing. The valve core, stem and hex nut are treated against corrosion. The pivoting valve stem makes installation easier and accommodates a wide range of wheel rim profiles.

A complete line of replacement parts and service kits is available and includes seal/washer, valve core, hex nut and sealing cap. Replacements are also available for the sensor’s durable metal valve stem, which is reusable.
