MAHLE Motorsports, a leading piston manufacturer for Sprint Car racing’s 410 series, now offers a Box-In-Box piston for the 360 series. The new 360ci Box-In-Box is similar in features to the company’s 410ci Box-In-Box. Both offer superior strength and durability for high-output engines in a lightweight forged design that uses considerably less mass, says the company.
Trey McFarland, MAHLE Motorsports’ sales/marketing manager, said, “With the growing use of higher output engines in the 360 series, some capable of reaching 700 HP, it was important to ensure strength in critically stressed areas. After years of R&D and dyno and track testing, we are excited to now offer a Box-In-Box that meets the standard of our 410ci.”
MAHLE Box-In-Box pistons are hand deburred and feature a phosphate dry film lubricant coating to protect against ring micro-welding and pin galling. The 360ci features slipper skirt forging, ultra-flat ring grooves and CNC machined pin bores. MAHLE’s proprietary GRAFAL coating is applied to the skirts to prevent scuffing and reduce friction, according to the company.
