Intertek And CAPA Enter Into Exclusive License Agreement For Aftermarket Auto Parts Certification Program

The agreement grants Intertek exclusive rights to operate the CAPA certification program around the world, which includes managing daily operations, administering certification marks and labels, performing marketing activities, and conducting testing and inspection services.

Intertek, a Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has entered into an exclusive services appointment and license agreement with the Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA), an independent non-profit certification organization for automotive replacement parts.

The agreement grants Intertek exclusive rights to operate the CAPA certification program around the world, which includes managing daily operations, administering certification marks and labels, performing marketing activities and conducting testing and inspection services. CAPA will continue as a non-profit standard development organization, focusing on maintaining CAPA standards in support of its mission.

As a global leader in aftermarket part certification for more than 30 years, CAPA standards have been used worldwide to identify high-quality aftermarket auto parts based on their design, materials, construction and true comparability to OEM parts. Today, more than 92 million parts have achieved CAPA certification.

For more than 26 years, Intertek has served as the testing and validation partner to CAPA, accumulating years of expertise in performance, quality and reliability standards for the aftermarket parts industry.

Tim Hubbard, senior vice president at Intertek, said, “We are delighted to have entered into this agreement with CAPA, an organization which has long been the leader in certifying aftermarket automotive parts and providing peace of mind to customers. Intertek is committed to providing comprehensive services for all segments of the automotive industry, including aftermarket parts manufacturers. We look forward to leveraging our experience and global reach to build on CAPA’s legacy, while taking the program to new heights with increased speed to market and enhanced industry relationships, utilizing our assurance, testing, inspection and certification solutions.”

Jack Gillis, interim executive director of CAPA, added, “At CAPA, our priority has always been to ensure that the market has access to high-quality, fairly priced, alternative parts that provide the same functionality as a car company brand part. Our partnership with Intertek has set the stage for the logical transition of CAPA’s program management to this highly respected, international testing company. Intertek’s extensive experience with CAPA, CAPA manufacturers, and automotive testing and certification will enable them to significantly grow the program while manufacturers and the marketplace will notice few outward changes.”

Intertek provides expertise on performance, quality and reliability standards and expectations and says it provides efficient, cost-effective insights and testing capabilities. The company is accredited to conduct hundreds of electrical, chemical and mechanical tests for automotive components, products and systems.
