Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. In this new feature, participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. This week, we hear from Bryan Emrich, vice president of marketing, Old World Industries.
What was your first job in the industry?
I was the Director of Marketing and Motorsports at Valvoline.
What do you like best about your current position?
I enjoy the opportunity to help mold the future path of Old World’s business on both the retail and commercial side. Old World Industries has some fantastic brands, and this is a great organization that simply knows how to get things done to deliver the best product to our customers.
Did you initially intend to pursue a career in the aftermarket? If not, what drew you to the industry and what keeps you here?
I started my career in more traditional consumer products at Procter & Gamble, but I have always been a car guy at heart so I got really excited when an opportunity arose to work at Valvoline. In that experience, I found that I really loved car people and the automotive industry. When I had the chance to get back into the aftermarket industry with Old World, without having to move my family, I was all over it.
What do you do when not at work?
Most of my free time is dedicated to my wife and family enjoying all of the great little things in life, like watching my family participate on baseball, softball and swim teams. Any extra time that I have outside of family life, I spend playing with my car and going to the racetrack or drag strip.
What one word best sums up your personality?
Resolute.
What kind of car do you drive?
I drive a ’09 BMW 335i with a little extra under the hood.
Who was your childhood hero?
Ricky Johnson in his motocross days.
