Every so often, our editorial staff selects one aftermarket industry professional to get to know a little better. Participants are asked to respond to a series of questions that can be answered in about the same amount of time you might spend chatting at the office coffee pot or waiting for an elevator. In today’s installment of “Five Minutes With,” we get to know a little more about Angela Golden, who was recently named head of marketing for Dayco.
What was your first job in the industry?
I started my career in the aftermarket as the assistant marketing manager at NGK Spark Plugs. There, I was responsible for marketing NGK and NTK brands through advertising, promotions, product launches and events.
What do you like best about your current position?
The best part of my current position is the current state Dayco is in. Dayco is building a new aftermarket staff with a blank slate. This means that I am able to create new and exciting marketing initiatives to help move the Dayco brand forward.
Did you initially intend to pursue a career in the aftermarket? If not, what drew you to the industry and what keeps you here?
No, actually my father – who was a technician his whole life – did not want me in the automotive industry or working around cars, mostly because my dream of becoming a NASCAR driver scared him. However, after getting involved with YANG, and getting a push from some industry friends to become more involved in [the] Auto Care [Association] and AASA [the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association], I have become passionate about the aftermarket and know that it is the industry for me.
What do you do when not at work?

When I am not at work I am spending time with my husband and two children. I also tend to rescue multiple animals and enjoy getting on the golf course whenever I can.
What one word best sums up your personality?

Honest. I believe in always being honest. Nothing can be gained, no one can improve if they are given false information. Always be honest.
Who is on your dream dinner party guest list?

Lou Holtz, Phil Mickelson, Ben Hogan, Daniel Tosh
Favorite quote/mantra/motto?
“Don’t be mad about the truth, you are the only one that can change it.” ~ Angela Golden
