CHARLOTTE, N.C. Fastrak Retail and OSRAM SYLVANIA Inc.’s Automotive Division are using the Apple iPad and the brand’s latest custom Headlight app to provide store personnel and shoppers with an easy-to-use touchscreen kiosk at-the-shelf in select Eastern AutoZone stores.
The shelf-ready iPads and a commercially hardened version of the Headlight for iPad app assists SYLVANIA Automotive customers with selecting and replacing their automotive light bulbs for almost every American make and model vehicle manufactured between 1958 and 2011. The consumer version of the app for iPad is available on the App Store at http://bit.ly/HeadlightbySYLVANIA. The kiosk app not only provides bulb look-up, but also how-to videos, product information and comparisons to help customers make decisions at the point of purchase, the company points out.
"For OSRAM SYLVANIA Inc.’s Automotive Products Division, this signifies another ‘first’ innovation in the market for us. We have spent considerable time and energy developing solid mobile apps for Apple’s iOS operating system. This commercial-grade app is the third platform for SYLVANIA Automotive and we are excited to see how the consumer adapts to the device at the shelf," said Adonis Cornwell, merchandising manager, SYLVANIA Automotive Products Division.
The beauty of the iPad platform, SYLVANIA notes, is not just its affordability as a small-form factor touchscreen device, but its robust and consistent performance that make it ideal for retail environments. Not only has the hardware been secured, the software has been locked down to prevent accessing the device to play games, music or browsing the Internet.
Mobile device management (MDM) and backend analytics are managed and monitored by Fastrak Retail’s Mobile Division centralized customer service, which maximizes up-time with little-to-no need for field service personnel beyond the initial installation, according to Fastrak.
