FAIRFAX, VA — ExxonMobil is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the introduction of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. First introduced in 1974, Mobil 1 has become the world’s number one-selling synthetic motor oil, according to the company.
ExxonMobil kicked off a celebration for the brand on April 13 in Beaumont, Texas, where Mobil 1 is manufactured and distributed for all of North and South America.
“Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil began a revolution in motor oil technology that has vastly improved the performance of automobile engines,” said Bill Maxwell, senior engineering advisor, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company. “Thirty years later, Mobil 1 continues to be the leader in delivering innovative solutions that allow drivers to protect and push their engines to the maximum.”
In 1974, Mobil 1 became the world’s first internationally available synthetic motor oil. Launched during the energy crisis, Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil not only provided superior lubricating properties, but improved fuel efficiency. According to the company, the first Mobil 1 formula reduced gasoline consumption by 5 percent, compared to conventional oils.
ExxonMobil plans to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Mobil 1 throughout 2004 with a number of activities. ALLTEL/Mobil 1 NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and his pit crew will supervise changing the oil of some lucky Beaumont, Texas, residents. Newman will also run a special Mobil 1 30th anniversary racecar at the Auto Club 500 at the California Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
ExxonMobil will offer NASCAR fans the chance to obtain a Mobil 1 30th anniversary memento of their own. For a limited time, consumers can receive a replica of the commemorative edition Mobil 1 30th anniversary #12 Mobil 1/ALLTEL car by mail when they purchase a Mobil 1 oil change or 6-quarts of any Mobil 1 motor oil.
