Eaton’s San Luis Potosi Plant Receives Mexico’s National Quality Award

SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico – Eaton announced that its San Luis Potosi, Mexico, (SLP), facility has won the 2014 National Quality Award for exemplary quality and organizational capability, including innovation, competitiveness and sustainability. Eaton’s SLP plant was the overall winner in the Manufacturing category, based on a comprehensive on-site evaluation conducted by an independent team of experts in October.

The prestigious award was presented by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto during a ceremony at the presidential residence in Mexico City on Jan. 15. The awards were co-sponsored by Mexico’s Ministry of Economy and the National Institute of the Entrepreneur.

“It is a great honor for our San Luis Potosi facility to receive Mexico’s National Quality Award,” said Ron Rabe, vice president, Manufacturing, Vehicle Group. “This is a tremendous achievement and reflects the hard work of the entire SLP team and their commitment to Eaton’s philosophy of Doing Business Right.”

Mexico’s National Quality Award committee called Eaton’s winning San Luis Potosi facility a model organization, citing its mission, vision, values, ethics, security and leadership. Opened in 2002, Eaton’s San Luis Potosi facility is part of the Vehicle Group’s Truck North America operations. The facility employs more than 750 workers, who manufacture high-quality transmissions, clutches and machined gears and shafts for commercial vehicles.

The San Luis Potosi facility was one of just 10 sites worldwide to be named a 2014 Eaton Premier facility during the recent Eaton Business Excellence Assessment process. It also was named a “Great Place to Work” by independent auditors for a second year in a row.

Eaton’s SLP plant continues to be recognized both internally and externally as a top-tier, benchmark manufacturing facility. Recent awards include the:

* San Luis Potosi State Quality Award (2011);
* Industria Limpia (Clean Industry) Award from the Mexican Environmental Agency (2010, 2011, 2014);
* Eaton World Class Performance (2013, 2014); and
* Eaton Business Excellence Premier Plant (2008, 2011, 2014).

“Safety, quality, communication, sustainability and continuous improvement are fundamental to our operations and in achieving the National Quality Award,” said Javier Gomez, SLP plant manager. “Every member of our team, with the support of our leaders, lives Eaton’s mission, vision and values that contributed to this journey.”
