RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Representatives from China will discuss their country’s efforts to combat counterfeiting of U.S. automotive products and intellectual property rights (IPO) violations as well as the procedures to take action against them at the Brand Protection Council’s meeting, which takes place on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at the Hyatt Regency, Dearborn, Mich.
The Brand Protection Council is a peer group of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). MEMA, in conjunction with its market segment associations, created the Brand Protection Council to help address and set the association’s priorities in the areas of counterfeiting, diversion, non-compliant products and intellectual property rights. The group is open to any member of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA) or the Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA).
“China is one of the world’s fastest growing automotive markets, and its leaders are working hard to promote its manufacturing worldwide,” said Paul Foley, vice president of AASA, a market segment of MEMA. “Our members welcome this opportunity to discuss the global issue of counterfeiting and IPO violations with its representatives.”
In addition to its quarterly meetings, the council also maintains a Web section that focuses on the growing problems of counterfeited motor vehicle parts and other brand protection related issues, http://www.mema.org/counter/index.php. The site is designed to be a portal for the automotive supplier industry to obtain information relating to the issues of intellectual property and brand protection for motor vehicle products.
