ALBION, IL — John Evans, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Champion Laboratories, has been named president of the Albion, Ill.-based automotive parts manufacturer. Evans, a native of Vincennes, Ind., has been with Champion Laboratories for 20 years. He replaces Tom Mowatt, who has taken retirement.
Champion Laboratories officials said Mowatt postponed his retirement for more than a year to help the company make the transition from ownership by New Jersey-based UIS Inc. to United Components Inc.
Champion Laboratories Inc. is a major supplier of automotive and heavy-duty filters for original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket.
Champion Laboratories operates plants in Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina, Mexico and England with distribution points in Illinois, Michigan, South Carolina, California, England, France, Costa Rica and Canada.
The company is currently in the midst of a $28 million plant modernization project in Edwards County that includes the addition of a 30,000 square feet to Albion Plant One. Once completed, Champion Laboratories plans to close its older and less efficient West Salem, Ill., facility, merging production into the improved Albion facilities.
