Staff and volunteers representing the Auto Care Association and the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA) participated in a job fair and associated industry outreach programs earlier this month at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania, serving as resources for the Job and Career Development program.
Attendees participated in Grove City College’s signature recruiting and networking event, and one of the largest job fairs in the Western Pennsylvania region. The job fair attracted more than 1,200 students, 170 businesses, graduate schools, non-profits and government agencies from 19 states and various international locations. Exhibitors included Coca Cola, Chick-fil-A, Honda, Federated Investors, Mylan, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Penn State Electro-Optics Center, GE, PwC and UPMC. In addition to the job fair, participants were invited to engage with faculty and students during a panel discussion, reception and a number of in-classroom presentations.
The following people participated:
- Katy McQuiston, Auto Care Association
- Chase Baxley, The Parts House, member, YANG Advisory Council
- Cliff Hovis, Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Inc., chairman, AWDA
- Addie Hovis, Hovis Auto & Truck Supply Inc., member, YANG
- George Dunham, CARDONE Industries Inc.
- Ryan Jones, Federal-Mogul Motorparts, member, YANG
- Anthony Maulorico, Tenneco Inc., member, YANG
“This experience will provide a test-bed for the association’s development of a template for members to connect with colleges and universities in their local markets,” said Cliff Hovis, chairman, AWDA, and president, Hovis Auto & Truck Supply. “We learned countless lessons that our staff and members will be able to apply to many more college outreach efforts. Our industry has a fantastic story to tell. This was an extremely positive and productive first step toward telling that story to schools everywhere.”
