Acquisitions Panelists to Offer Practical Advice at PBES

BETHESDA, MD – Five prominent multi-location PBE jobbers will offer "practical advice for growing your PBE distribution business through acquisition" during the 2007 Spring Conference of the Paint Body & Equipment Specialists (PBES), May 15-17, at the Hyatt Regency in Newport Beach, CA.

Panelists will include Roger Howe, Wesco Group; Joe Mattos, Mattos Pro Finishes; Jay Sharp, CARQUEST Automotive Finishes; Glenn Martin, Martin Auto Color; and Robert McKenzie, Hub City PBE.

Howe, who along with his partner operates 24 locations in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, says that positive financial analysis is just one step in a successful acquisition. A buyer must also successfully navigate the emotional whitewater that often occurs during a negotiation.

"Emotions can be a gigantic factor," Howe said. "We’ve had deals unravel at the last minute over the silliest things. It helps a lot if you find out what the seller is really trying to accomplish."

The panel discussion follows a presentation by investment banker and automotive aftermarket analyst Jonathan Carey, BB&T Capital Markets. Carey’s program is entitled “Mergers and Acquisitions: Understanding the Opportunity.”

The 2007 PBES Spring Conference will feature two days of seminars, panel discussions and roundtables on topics of interest to PBE jobbers and PBE industry affiliates.
