Known far and wide in the performance industry as "Mr. Phone," Herb Goldstein died Saturday, Jan. 14, after a long illness.

Goldstein had a long and illustrious career as a high-performance manufacturer's rep. He represented many major names in that sector on a national basis. He is credited with not only bringing those manufacturers to market, but also helping carry them into national prominence with his marketing skills.

Goldstein earned his nickname for the nearly constant long-distance phone calls he would make to every high-performance customer in the country. He was a powerful and creative salesman who came from a rep family. His father Jack before him had a long career on the West Coast.

Goldstein, in his time, was perhaps the best-known performance rep in the entire country. In addition to his career as a manufacturer's rep, he also invested in several manufacturing enterprises as well.

According to those who knew him, Goldstein was "a very funny guy who loved talking to strangers, and making the nightclub circuit in Beverly Hills."

"Very outgoing, he was the first one to put his hand in his pocket if anyone he knew was in trouble," remembered his colleague Joe Mittelman of the Aftermarket Foundation. "Once you met him, you would never forget him. He was very strong, and loved to arm wrestle anyone who was brave enough to try. Herb will leave a lasting impression on the entire performance aftermarket."
