Donald E. “Don” Miller, longtime automotive aftermarket executive, passed away on April 26 after a long battle with cancer.

Miller spent his 35 year career at The Gates Corp. He served as president and chief operating officer from 1987 to 1994 and, in 1996, was named vice chairman.

He also was an active member of MEMA and served on its board of directors from 1975 through 1980.

“Don Miller was one of the icons of the industry for many years. He led Gates during some of its best years and made it one of the finest suppliers in the aftermarket,” noted Bob McKenna, president and CEO of MEMA and longtime friend. “Don was an even better person and friend to many of us early in our careers as a counselor and an example to try to emulate.

“He was one of the many leaders of the Gates Rubber Co. who were instrumental in MEMA’s leadership and many other industry activities,” McKenna continued. “Those of us who had the great privilege of working with Don are better off because of it. He will be missed.”
