CBO Study Finds that Bill Limiting Regulation of Greenhouse Gases Would Result in Federal Budget Savings

From AAIA Capital Report

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has released an analysis that found that legislation now being considered in the House to prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from regulating greenhouse gases (GHGs) would save the federal government $57 million in 2012 and about $250 million between 2012-2016.

The analysis assumes that the prohibition would go into effect before the beginning of the next fiscal year on Oct. 1. The savings would result from the fact that certain EPA activities associated with regulating GHGs would be prohibited if the legislation is approved.

The CBO analysis was requested by the House Energy and Commerce Committee where the bill had passed on March 15. The bill is expected to be considered by the full House sometime this week.
