From AAIA Capital Report

Speaking before a group in Fairfax, Va., last week, President Obama stated that he did not believe Democrats could procure the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture and proceed to a final vote on the Employee Free Choice Act. The legislation, a high priority of the administration, would amend the national Labor Relations Act, removing the requirement for a private ballot election and instead, permit a shop to be unionized by having employees sign authorization cards, a process known as “card check.”

President Obama also said that his administration has taken steps to administratively further the interests of unions and ensure they are not placed at an “unfair disadvantage.” The administration has accomplished this goal through political appointments to the National Labor Relations Board and a number of executive orders.
