NHTSA to Hold Public Hearing on Tire Efficiency Public Education Program
March 16, 2010
|
From AAIA Capital Report

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a hearing to discuss a new consumer information program for replacement tires on Friday, March 26, in Washington, D.C.

Under the Energy Independence and Security Act, NHTSA is required to develop a national tire fuel efficiency rating system and consumer education program to inform consumers about the effect of tires on fuel efficiency. The agency has already conducted focus group studies where it presented several labels using different graphics and scales to communicate a fuel efficiency ratings system, which it had proposed in a June 22, 2009, notice. NHTSA also conducted an Internet survey to further explore what influences consumers' tire purchasing decisions and how best to convey the information in this education program. NHTSA intends to conduct further consumer research and will accept public comments both at the March 26 hearing and in writing from interested parties.
